La Gamma Andromedae (57 Andromedae secondo Flamsteed) è un sistema complesso, distante 355 anni luce, ma agli strumenti degli astrofili si presenta come un semplice seppur meraviglioso sistema binario.&lt;br /&gt;
Questo sistema secondo il reverendo Webb, di cui riportò i colori oro e blu delle componenti, è “una delle coppie più belle del cielo”.&lt;br /&gt;
L’Ammiraglio Smyth trovava queste stelle di colore arancio e verde smeraldo, ma di fronte alle illustri valutazioni di William Herschel e F.G.W. Struve secondo i colori giallo e blu, si ritirava in buon ordine ...   &lt;br /&gt;

Il suo nome, Almach (ma si trova riportata come Almaak, Alamak, Almak, Almaach) ha origini complesse e risale alla cultura araba pre-islamica – deriva dal nome arabo del “caracal” o lince africana. Successive contrazioni e latinizzazioni del nome nel Medioevo e nel Rinascimento hanno portato al nome attuale.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
La stella, sempre a detta di Webb, fu scoperta nel 1788 da Mayer, e misurata per la prima volta nel 1830 da Struve – e la sua sigla è infatti STF 205.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Dal 1830 al 1995 la separazione è scesa da 10,3” a 9,8” e l’AP è variato da 62° a 64°.&lt;br /&gt;
